I don't even know where to start with this one. I was on my home from up north when I got reception back on my almost-dead phone, I had an urgent voicemail from Mindy, my only friend in Lansing. There was a horrible car accident Friday after I left work and her mom, her sister, her nephew and her 2 children were all injured. When I finally tracked them down at Sparrow a few hours ago, I found out that they had just taken her 3-year-old son off of life support. I can't even begin to imagine what she's going through right now. Her 6-year-old daughter went home yesterday, her sister & nephew went home Friday night/Saturday morning, and her Mom is still in the ICU. I am so torn up about this, I can't even process it. I feel even worse since for the first time in my life, I didn't check my phone for the whole weekend (I didn't have reception up north, but still). I'm probably going to be very tied up with this for awhile between covering for her at work and trying to just be there. I don't even know what I'm supposed to do for her and her family...

omg.. my condolences. my friend lost her niece to a flagpole accident last year. it's HORRIBLE to lose anyone especially children.

I'll keep Mindy and her family in my prayers.

I suggest you guys open up a trust fund and have the news or some kind of media spread word to get donors for Marcus' service costs etc.

Keep strong for them. *hugs*

I remember hearing about that - it was crazy. It's so scary to think that things like this happen to kids every day. Unbelievable.

They did open a memorial fund for him. His funeral is Wednesday, they were waiting for his Grandma to get out of the hospital...

That's so sad :( I can't even imagine losing a child. My brother was sick so my parents knew it was possible and then he finally did go but they weren't there when he had gone since it was night and he was sleeping. You just never know when someone's going to go whether they're healthy or not. Scares me.

Yeah, it's the scariest thing I could ever imagine. That was the good part of this horrible story, he was asleep in the car before the accident and he just never woke up. Thank God for small favors...

I'm so sorry :(

No parent should ever have to bury one of their children, especially a young one his age. My heart goes out to their family.

All you can do is be there for Mindy, whether it's financially, physically or emotionally. I'm sure she appreciates you, and anything you do for her during her time of grief.

This is devastating. i am praying for mindy and her family that they find the support and love to heal from this. so tragic im just in tears. he is so precious and beautiful.

Oh my god Jenda. I'm so sorry. The landline is always open to you if you need it up there. I should've made sure that everyone knew that. Thats horrible. I'll keep her in my prayers.

I just feel like crap for not being there - not like I could do anything, just the thought of not having my friends there for something like that makes me sick. Thanks...

How fucking terrible, I am so incredibly sorry to hear this. I met them once and those kids were so sweet, my thoughts and prayers go to Mindy. Wish I could help financially, but I'm in no position, if there is anything else I can do let me know.

Thanks, Jess. Thoughts and prayers are what they need more than anything right now, the money problems won't set in until later so I was trying to nip that part in the bud for her. I don't have the money to help her either, so I feel you on that.

Hope things are going good for you...
